El Niño: What Can Telecommunications Operators Do to Face It?
In an interview with the Peruvian newspaper Gestión, Juan Fernando Mejía, Director of Customer Engineering at InterNexa, discusses the recommendations to consider if this phenomenon repeats in the coming months.
In the face of the impact that the climatic phenomenon could have on their networks, operators must have a preventive action plan, among other measures.
The effects of the Coastal El Niño that occurred between March and June, and the upcoming arrival of this phenomenon towards the end of the year, highlight the need for internet operators to remain vigilant in the face of possible complications in telecommunications services and network infrastructure. These complications could lead to service disruptions or slowdowns in the northern and southern regions of the country.
As is known, in previous years, El Niño caused landslides, constant rains, and river overflows that damaged optical fiber network infrastructure, interrupting internet-related services for both residential users and businesses.
